George Devenish

Son of George Devenish and lived at 13 Crawford Street, Greenock at time of war. Apprentice plater in Scott's East Yard. George was Married in 7 May 1915 to Ann Cabrie, Had Four children George, Anne, Mary and Rachel. He was a Boiler Maker and also was in the Fire Brigade. Lived at Fire Brigade Building Greenock.  Died 18 June 1965 Greenock

Enlisted 13/6/1911. Wounded with a gunshot wound to the head on the 6th July, two days after arrival at Gallipoli. He was later hospitalised in Alexandria with gunshot wound to the right ankle on 23/12/1915 and again on 25/3/1916 at Kantara with Blepheritis. He was still in Kantara in May 1916. At this time he was sent home having served his agreed 5 years with the Territorials. He then signed up with the 1/5th Black Watch
