Robert Stewart(Argylls)

Had two brothers serving in France. Son of William Stewart (Corkcutter)?. Employed as machine riveter in Russell & Co., Port Glasgow. Lived at 34 West Blackhall St., Greenock.

According to his granddaughter "He married on the 19th December 1919 and went on to have 4 children Mary, Patrick, Bobby and Peggy (my mother) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who still live in Greenock. He died on 8th June 1957. He stayed in Gibshill in Greenock and lived a quiet but very happy life."

Attested 25/3/14 MEF 1/6/15(Gallipoli) - 6/4/18 Wounded again in 11/17(Palestine) - gunshot wound to left leg. BEF(Western Front) 19/4/18 7/7/18 Posted to Stirling Castle Depot 16/1/1919. One of the few original Argylls who served with their battalion for the duration of the war.
