Lived at 26 Trafalgar Street, Greenock. Also had family at 22 Margaret Street. Son of ex Provost D M Erskine. One of the first three Cairds apprentices to enlist.

Was placed with machine gun Coy in Battalion. Wounded 12th July 1915. Admitted to Cairo Hospital. Recommended for DCM
