Remembering those who fought in the Great War.

Alexander Ramsay(Renfrew?) McGilvray

Son of the late John and Agnes McGilvray. Brother of Jeanie, Donald, John, Margaret and Malcolm. He was in Sumatra at the beginning of the war but came home in 1915 and joined the Argylls. He was a well-known Wellpark Harrier

Buried at Ramleh War Cemetery. Grave Reference Q.19.

"We had an officer killed here named McGilvray, attached from A & SH. During an action here this officer was shot through the forearm and carried on, shot again in the leg and carried on, and then was shot through the head and to my mind fully earned a VC but nothing came of it."

It is possible that this is #2851/201014 of 5th Argylls. Unable to find his commission
