Francis C. Gordon Barr

Known as Gordon Barr. 

Son of the Late Dr Barr and Mrs Smith (of The Rectory, previously of Beaconsfield). Brother of Vere Barr.

Before the war was head of the clerical department of Lloyds of Greenock. A member of the Port Glasgow Amateur Rowing Club with his brother Vere. 

Undertook training at Gailes.

Wounded on July 1st 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. Recieved shrapnel wounds to the head and sent to Stobhill Hospital. 

According to the Port Glasgow Express May 1917 was gazetted as Second Lieutenant of the Scottish Rifles and was given leave to marry Miss Miriam Needham of Rossbank.
