Mentioned in Despatches 18th June 1918 for services in the Northern Patrol Cruisers under Vice Admiral Reginald Tupper

Joined Clyde RNVR November 1910 as sub lieutenant. Peter McKirdy had joined July 1910


Nicol, J E. Served as Lieutenant, RNVR (Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve), with the Nelson Battalion, 1st Brigade of the RND (Royal Naval Division), 1914-1915; and on board HMS Roxburgh, 1916. He was active at Antwerp, the Dardanelles and Gallipoli, and with the Atlantic Convoys, 1914-1918. Wounded at Gallipoli Naval Hospital Malta with Pyrexia and left RND 25/10/1915 and appointed to HMS Excellent. By 1939 he was a retired Commander.
